Maker Faire Bay Area 2012

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!
Duck tape robot and sock monkey made with real socks - fun peep boards enjoyed by many at Maker Faire!
I spent a whirlwind few days at Maker Faire Bay Area in San Mateo this weekend with the When Creativity Knocks team. We hosted a variety of make & take projects sponsored by C&T Publishing, Duck Brand and Plaid, taped new episodes of WCK and my Behind These Eyes series, and as always, saw a huge variety of creativity ranging from the natural to the mechanical.    Where else in the world can you find paintings made by snails, giant flaming robots, amazing steampunk and sci-fi costumes, 50 foot long metallic glowing metal serpents, wooden bicycles, Kinetic Pastry Science Mobile Muffins, fun faire food and more?   I thought I’d share with you a peak at some of what caught my eye.   Visit Maker Faire's website for information on all the amazing things on display.

Halo anyone? Shawn Thorsson's Costumes and Props - a fan favorite!
Old albums + laser cut + heat = SOOCH Art!
The Front Porch - a good old fashioned "mobile" stage!

"Danger Will Robinson!" - It's giant Space Marines from Shawn Thorsson

Dalek - whizzed his way around the Faire.
Amazingly unique costumes for Carnival in Venice from Erin Mahoney
Yes, that's a huge cardboard horse!
Mushrooms from Starbucks coffee grounds - delicious genius from Back to the Roots
These girls rocked with their Devinci creativity!
Making music with unexpected instruments
Gon KiRin - 60 feet of flame throwing, illuminated, interactive sculpture - WOW!
Great big flaming umbrella sculpture!
Squeeeeeel - Zombies!  Love it!

That looks like it was lots of fun! I think the Maker Faire's out there are way cooler than the one hosted here in NY. Thanks for sharing all the great pics!
