Vampire Blood/Faux Blood Necklace

My favorite season is here and I can't help myself - I just have to re-share some of my favorite spooky fun projects!  In this episode of my series Behind These Eyes™ on When Creativity Knocks, I share my recipe for creating faux blood using ICE Resin & Rit Dye

And to further add to the creep factor - here's my recipe for the GHOULISH version of faux blood!

In the Vampire Blood Necklace episode of Behind These Eyes with Cindi Bisson, I share my recipe for faux blood that will last for years. As part of the instructions, I suggest you use a tiny bit of Rit Liquid Dye at a time to color the resin - because if too much dye is used, you get a different result. We didn’t share that result in the episode - but I wanted to show our viewers just what kind of ghoulish results you get with extra dye! It’s a creepy effect too which would work great for some applications - just not for the pendant I was sharing with you. So without further ado…add a teaspoon or more of Rit Liquid Dye (the amount depends on just how crusty you want the finished result to be) to your small amount of mixed ICE Resin and you get what I think looks like clotty, crusty, totally disgusting blood puddles! Which my two boys think are totally cool…Happy Halloween!

Follow the original instructions and you get smooth, dense puddles of faux blood.

Alter the recipe as above and you get GHOULISH blood!

Beaded Spider - DCC October Blog Hop

It's time for the Halloween edition of the Designer Craft Connection blog hop!  Be sure to follow the link to the right to see what the other participating designers are sharing to add some BOO to your world!

This beaded spider was a snap to create - I followed the directions in the most recent episode of When Creativity Knocks - We visited Crafted at the Port of LA and Mary Austin from Twisted Sisters showed us how easy it was to create these little bejeweled crawlers.  I couldn't resist whipping one up for myself!    Add a pin back, or make  a necklace for him to hang from as a pendant - or perch him on a pumpkin like I did for a little creepy fun.

Materials:

22/24 Gauge wire
Jewelry pliers
Black seed beads, black bugle beads, round glass bead for head
Connie Crystal blue bicone beads, large blue glass bead for body
Bead caps

Follow the instructions in the episode below to create your own spider you don't want to squish!

Rowlux® Illusion Film Blog Hop

Rowlux® Illusion Film is absolutely dazzling!  When I opened my sample package for the hop, I was mesmerized by the dimensional illusion the brightly colored sheets.  The official names of the patterns are Moire, 3D, Sea Glass and Serpentine, but they reminded me of liquid gold, flowing water, pearlized satin, shimmering alligator skin.....  purple, dark blue, gold, emerald green, hot pink, lime green....and more. So many colors and different “textures” to choose from it’s mind boggling.

Rowlux® Illusion Film is made in the USA and comes in a diverse range of spectacular eye-catching colors and patterns.  This revolutionary material has been utilized in award winning point of purchase displays, packaging, signage, artwork, footwear, lighting, interior design, retail display fixtures and beyond. Our new frontier is the craft industry! There's absolutely nothing like it on the market. These durable, translucent, 12" x 12" polycarbonate sheets add instant pizzazz to craft projects, seasonal accents, party decorations, scrapbooks, greeting cards, jewelry, furniture, frames, gifts, favors, accessories, art and DIY home decor projects. Easily cut with scissors, Rowlux® is also the perfect material for scoring, folding, embossing and die cutting. The creative possibilities are endless. This innovative and inspiring new craft material manipulates light to create dazzling visual effects. The illusion of depth and motion is the result of thousands of tiny parabolic lenses that are molded into the surface of both sides of the material. These lenses create a pattern of light reflection and refraction resulting in stunningly brilliant optical effects.

To instantly add "POP" and "WOW" to your projects, just add Rowlux®!

I die cut the box from the Gold Moire Rowlux® Illusion Film with the Sizzix® Big Shot™ and Eileen Hull's Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die - Box, Triangle.  The earrings and pendant were wrapped in gold tissue paper, and then inserted into the box.  "Happy Birthday" was stamped onto a piece of the gold Rowlux® with the Palette inkpad, then mounted to the bottom front
of the box using Glue Dots® Glue Line® on the left and right edges.  A strip of he black & gold ribbon was added as an accent piece above the Happy Birthday, and was used to tie the box shut at the top/opening.

Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop - Wishes

Although there are endless ways to think about wishes - birthday wishes, good luck wishes, wedding wishes, bon voyage wishes, baby shower wishes, get well wishes, wishes that your children will have happy & healthy futures, when I thought about creating a post for today's blog hop following our "Wishes" theme was Jeannie.  Yes - Barbara Eden from the I Dream of Jeannie show many years ago.  It originally aired before my time, but I enjoyed the re-runs about a zillion times (and still do when I can find them on TV!)   I loved it so much that one Halloween many (many, many) years ago I even made a Jeannie halloween costume, complete with a jeweled bottle, and dressed my husband as Major Nelson for a party we were attending.   (What's one of MY wishes today?  That I could still fit into that costume lol!)

I went to what seems to be a never-ending source of inspiration these days - PINTEREST - and searched "Genie" - the results were plentiful - and very interesting.   It seems "genies" inspire creativity of all kinds - photographs, costumes, paintings, cartoons, bottles, lamps, jewelry, and some of my favorites which I thought were completely amazing - this awesome, colorful cake, this enormous sand sculpture, and yes, there was even a genie costume for a dog!

I also found this quote, which I liked so much I decided to use for a mixed-media bracelet project.  I kept the basic bracelet very simple, as I plan to wear this regularly and wanted it to coordinate with many outfits.

“The absolutely awesome incredible power of belief is the genie in your life.”

Some New Bling with Makin's Clay

I thought I'd share a pendant and earring set I made to wear at ARTOLOGY this past weekend in New Jersey.   A variety of different beads, all made with black Makin's Clay® , were used along with a few green glass beads for accents.   The dragonfly pendant was created with Makin's Clay® in a fabulous Paula Radke dragonfly mold from Art Clay World.   The wings of the dragonfly, and some of the black clay beads, were given a little sparkle with Clearsnap's Smooch GLITZ™.    The diversity of options when designing with Makin's Clay® is one of the reasons it's one of my favorite mediums.
